For years, a Gilford summer had one shape. Saturday belonged to the beach, Sunday belonged to the lake, and the rest of the week belonged to whoever could get out of work early. The 2026 calendar has quietly reorganized that. Between Gunstock's Adventure Park operating hours, the concert nights at BankNH Pavilion, and the way Ellacoya's staffed hours have compressed, the busy stretch now runs Thursday through Sunday with a hard reset every Monday morning.
For residents, that reordering matters more than any single opening or event. It changes when Route 11 fills up, when Cherry Valley Road is worth taking, and which weekends need to be blocked out weeks ahead. Below is the summer as it actually plays out this year, from the mountain to the lake to the village.
Gunstock now runs a four-day week
The most consequential shift is at Gunstock. The Adventure Park is operating Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through August 30, 2026, then weekends only through November 1. The 262-site campground is the exception, running daily from May 22 through October 18.
That schedule matters because it concentrates almost every visitor into four days. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings on the Cherry Valley Road corridor now feel closer to shoulder season than to July. If a resident wants the trails, the fishing pond, or a walk up toward the summit without weekend traffic, those three days are the window.
What's actually running this summer, in order of how much foot traffic they draw:
- Mountain coaster. Carts on steel rail, top speed around 25 mph, minimum age six. The most consistently long line on a Saturday.
- Zipline Tours. A 90-minute experience across roughly 1.6 miles of line, among the longer networks in the continental United States, with speeds reported up to 70 mph.
- Aerial Treetop Adventure. Course strung through the trees near the fishing pond.
- Panorama scenic chairlift rides. Slated to open Independence Day weekend after upgrades to the Panorama lift. Worth waiting for if summit views are the whole point of the trip.
- Barrel Bar & Grille at Stockade Lodge. Full-service lunch and a Summer Music Series running roughly 2 to 5 p.m., with the Belknap Range as the deck view. The Snack Shack outside the Historic Main Lodge covers quick pickups.
Two logistical notes for anyone who hasn't been up in a season or two. Gunstock is now cashless across ticketing, food, and non-hosted bar service, with cash-to-card kiosks in the Ticket Office and the Historic Lodge hallway if needed. Reservations for the ziplines and coaster genuinely do sell through on holiday Saturdays.
The pavilion calendar is the real traffic forecast
If Gunstock sets the rhythm at the mountain, BankNH Pavilion sets it in the village. Concert nights push a predictable pulse onto Route 11B starting about two hours before the show and unloading again for roughly forty-five minutes after the encore. The doors typically open 90 to 120 minutes before the main stage, which is when the buildup on Meadowbrook Lane actually begins.
The July and August lineup is dense enough that it's easier to plan around than to react to. A few dates worth pinning to the fridge:

Two Gilford-specific reminders that catch newcomers off guard. Alcohol in the parking lots actually violates a local Gilford ordinance, regardless of how the tailgating culture reads online. And Sawyer's Ice Cream, the Center Harbor institution running since 1945, is now the official ice cream partner on the concourse, which is the shortest line most residents have found for a Sawyer's cone all summer.
Ellacoya's quiet hours are earlier than most residents realize
The beach itself is unchanged. What has shifted, quietly, is the operating window. The staffed day-use season at Ellacoya State Park runs through September 20, then goes to weekends only through October 13. Day-use fees remain $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 6 to 11, free under 5, and free for New Hampshire residents 65 and over with a valid license.
Two practical points that don't show up on the state's page.
First, parking is capped and reservations through the state system are worth the effort on any Saturday or holiday. On unreserved days the iron ranger self-pay station still works, but the lot can be full by 10:30 a.m. on a clear July weekend.
Second, the bathhouse closes at 5:30 p.m., and lifeguards are not consistently staffed. That's a real consideration for families building an evening picnic around the 600-foot beach with its view across the lake to the Sandwich and Ossipee ranges. The best resident play is a late-afternoon arrival, 4 p.m. onward, after the day trippers have started packing up and before the sun swings behind the Belknaps.
The RV campground next door is booked through the state system for the season running May 22 to October 11, with 37 sites, no tents, and no pets. Fourteen-day maximums apply between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and extensions are not granted, which is worth knowing if a family member calls hoping to add a few nights on short notice.
The one Saturday to protect
Saturday, August 29, 2026 is Gilford Old Home Day, and it's the one Saturday all summer where the answer is simply to be in town.
The day starts early with the Gilford Rotary Club pancake breakfast, a decades-long tradition that has historically anchored the morning at either the Gilford Community Church or the Gilford Youth Center on Potter Hill Road. The parade steps off mid-morning, craft and food vendors set up on Village Field, the library serves pie and ice cream until it runs out, and Bryan Conway the One Man Band tends to draw a crowd around midday. A 5K road race, a children's fun run, and open houses at the Mt. Belknap Grange, the 1834 Union Meetinghouse, and the Benjamin Rowe House fill out the afternoon. Fireworks close the night.
The rest of August has its own worth-clearing dates at Gunstock. The JustGoXplore Overlanding Expo takes over the resort August 14–15, the Run the Mountain Switchback and Bark & Burn Canicross runs August 22, and the Labor Day Weekend Craft Fair returns September 5–6. Any household that likes a light Saturday should treat those as busy days on Cherry Valley Road, not empty ones.
A resident's summer week, rebuilt
Put it all together and the summer week in Gilford 2026 actually looks like this:
- Monday and Tuesday. The quiet window. Gunstock's park is closed, the pavilion is usually dark, Ellacoya has parking. This is when to hike Locke's Hill Trails, take the boat out on a weekday, or eat on the deck at Ellacoya Barn and Grille without a wait. Watch for the occasional pavilion Monday or Tuesday show, which reshuffles everything.
- Wednesday. Still calm at the mountain, still calm at the beach. Farm stands like Beans & Greens and Moulton Farm are at their weekly peak of produce with the lightest crowds.
- Thursday. Gunstock opens. Pavilion often has a weeknight show. The Barrel Bar & Grille music series makes the deck a reasonable afternoon plan before the amphitheater fills.
- Friday. The pulse begins. Concert traffic on Route 11B builds from mid-afternoon.
- Saturday. Full load. Ellacoya reserved by 10 a.m., Gunstock at capacity by noon, the pavilion at its highest volume of the week. The Breeze on Dock Road and Patrick's Pub & Eatery run at wait-list levels through dinner.
- Sunday. The taper. Gunstock still open, pavilion frequently quiet, the beach easier by mid-afternoon. This is the day to end the weekend at the water rather than start it.
